Do you offer individual, couples or group therapy?
Yes! I offer individual therapy, couples therapy and occasionally I offer group therapy.
Are sessions in-person or virtual?

At this time, Breakthrough Counseling is conducting exclusively virtual sessions on a HIPAA-compliant platform. Click this link to find out more about virtual sessions.

How do I schedule a free conversation with Dr. Barnhart?

Fill out the CONTACT  DR. BARNHART form below or email kristin@thebreakthroughcounselor.com to book a FREE  conversation.   Let her know what days and times of day you are typically available for about 15 minutes.

What happens next?

You and Kristin will find a time for the 15-minute free online consultation.

Then she’ll send an invitation to talk on a HIPAA-compliant virtual platform called Simple Practice.

Click this link for tips on preparing for our time together on the virtual platform.

What should I expect during the free conversation?

You can expect that Kristin will help you feel at ease as you tell her a bit about what’s going on. You’ll get to meet Kristin, ask any questions you might have, and if we’re a good fit, we can schedule your first appointment.

Can I talk about my faith in sessions?

Yes. Dr. Barnhart is equipped to incorporate conversations about your faith into therapy sessions. The degree to which faith is incorporated into a counseling session is at your discretion. Dr. Barnhart provides a safe space for Christians struggling in their relationship with God and a comfortable place for people who do not want to address issues of faith at all.

What are the fees for counseling sessions?

A 45 minute Individual Therapy Session is $150

A 45 minute Couples Therapy Session is $150

*Payment is due on the day of a session so that there are no surprises. There are additional fees for services provided outside of counseling sessions. These are described in the intake forms.

Do you accept insurance?

I’ve partnered with Mentaya, a service that streamlines getting reimbursed for your therapy sessions through out-of-network benefits.

See if you qualify using the benefits calculator below or using this link: https://mentaya.co/checkbenefits/drkristinbarnhart

Mentaya is perfect if you:
• Have out-of-network benefits
• Feel overwhelmed by superbills and insurance
• Have submitted superbills but failed to get any reimbursement
• Simply want to skip the hassle of the paperwork!

Here’s how it works:
1. Sign up for Mentaya: https://mentaya.co/inviteclient/drkristinbarnhart
2. I’ll let Mentaya know when you’ve had a session.
3. Then Mentaya submits the claim and handles any insurance follow-up.
4. You get reimbursed by insurance!

Mentaya charges a 5% fee per claim, which includes handling any paperwork required,
dealing with denials, and calling insurance companies.

It’s risk-free: They guarantee claims are successfully submitted, or a full refund of their fees.

I’m not ready for therapy, but I would like to learn some tools and connect with others. How can I get connected?

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers including therapists need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059
